Paradoxes: Meals with Views - Eve's Waterfront

Paradoxes: Meals with Views - Eve's Waterfront

I am EXTREMELY skeptical of restaurants with great views.

When there's a good view, it's an excuse to serve pure garbage.

To my surprise, Eve's Waterfront has a fantastic view AND food that exceeded expectations. I was pleasantly surprised.

Remember, on The Snobby Foodie, I tell it like it is. I don't embellish or tip toe around the truth because I've been burned too many times with inaccurate Yelp reviews... and it sucks to spend money on bad food. I digress.

When I first walked in I panicked because I have always avoided restaurants with excellent views.

prices.

For being right on the Bay, you'd expect them to be outrageous and the food to be meh. The prices were reasonable, the food had character, and the portions were large. A very filling dinner for 2 will run you $60-75 (not including drinks or tip).

ambiance.

The ambiance was nautical. It felt like sitting in a yacht/sailing club. I would liken the venue and cuisine to the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco.

I recommend booking a reservation by the waterfront at sunset. The venue is also excellent for happy hour. You get dressed up, watch the sail boats go by & enjoy the pleasant Oakland weather.

service

The manager is friendly and chill, and the service is quite nice. My water was refilled. the servers came by promptly to ask for my next course, and I didn't feel rushed. I wasn't neglected and I wasn't overwhelmed.

food

A lot of Bay Area restaurants are plagued with the need to incorporate hipster trends, and it's EXHAUSTING. Perfect "minimalistic" decor, snootily dressed waitstaff.. oh yeah and minimalist tapas style food. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it's refreshing to get away from that.

If you're looking for a filling meal that is plated well at a reasonable price, go to Eve's Waterfront. Stick to the lighter, seafood dishes. Here are some recommendations...

The Dungeness crab salad is one of their signature dishes.  It's seasonal, so you have to get it before it's out! I like that the seafood here still tastes light. Many restaurants in this style over salt or butter the seafood and you can't taste the true flavor.

The mussels were unique and had a spicy pepperocini kick.  I hadn't tasted mussels in a peppery sauce before and it was different.

The portions are quite large. I was full after the appetizers!  I also ordered the scallops, but I wasn't a huge fan. They were a bit salty for my taste.

The roasted chicken with meyer lemon jus was... DROOL. Quite good. Super flavorful & unique. I'm obsessed with olives & the olives on this dish... were divine. I would come back for this one. Right now, I'm pondering how I can replicate the jus at home.

Told you- it's great view for happy hour!

If you're a chocolate fiend like me, get the chocolate cake. Get it even if you're not a chocolate fiend. If anything, I would come back to Eve's for wine and chocolate cake.

Would I go back? Yes  either for happy hour (a glass of wine) OR for the roasted chicken... or for that chocolate cake (oh, the chocolate cake)! Their dishes change seasonally, and I am curious to see the summer version of the roasted chicken.

At this price point and for this view, it's a restaurant worth trying. Eve's Waterfront was a solid experience and exceeded expectations.
