Mago is a Columbian restaurant tucked in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood. I tired the abbreviated tasting menu & it was great!
Food: 8/10
Ambiance: Fancy backyard vies - 8/10
Would I go back? Yes. I would go back and try the full tasting menu.
All in Bay Area

The restaurant has eclectic vibes and some really loud music, but the food is really unique. The menu changes frequently, so you’ll see something different every time you go.

If you want a fancy ish meal but don’t want to spend the super big bucks, Rotier is a decent bet. It’s right off Divisadero in the Filmore District, so you can go for a scenic pre dinner walk.
Growing tired of sub-par Indian restaurants, The Snobby Foodie searched long and hard to find the Bay Area's Best Biryani. Her search took her to places so sketchy that she was sometimes afraid to leave her car. One time, she was served an overpriced plate of biryani, and she had to send it back because it was mushy and gross.
What are people putting in my bubble tea? Poison!
Not really, but it's like the chicken nugget mystery. Most bubble tea places use non-dairy creamer because of the prevalence of lactose intolerance in the Asian population.
Recently, Coffee Shop opened in the city center of Walnut Creek... a few doors down from a Peet's coffee. DUN DUN DUN!
The Incumbent.
For those of you not on the West Coast, Peet's is like Starbucks - except bolder. It guarantees you a 3.5/5 coffee. Our incumbent has outdoor seating and has been at its location longer than I've been alive.
It's patrons (called Peet-ics) are early morning bikers, yoga women (/men), and pre-work coffee drinkers (so basically everyone).
As you can see, Coffee Shop made a bold and dangerous move setting up shop next to Peet's.
Burmese cuisine is like eating the best parts of Chinese, Thai, and Indian cuisine- how can you refuse?
When I tried Hopdoddy's La Bandita black bean burger in Austin, I finally realized that I could consume (and enjoy) a veggie burger.
Ever since then, I have been trying different types of veggie burgers only to be mildly amused. One burger that came close to La Bandita is Sideboard's Veggie Burger in Danville, CA.
I liked it so much that I even requested nutrition facts- hoping that I could reverse engineer the burger. The waitress said that they had no nutrition facts and that the burger had healthy stuff like protein, and oats, but the bread was caloric. Disappointed, I am continuing to play with recipes to recreate this marvel, although I am sure it is made with 50% butter. (More on this at a later date).
Living in a suburb can be difficult because there tends to be no great mom and pop restaurants. Concord, CA ended up having pretty decent Thai food - probably some of the best of the Contra Costa area.
