Best Eats on an Icelandic Road Trip

Just because you're going on a road trip, doesn't mean your meals have to be lackluster.

Have you ever had a meal so good that you daydream about it - even when you're not feeling hungry?  These are some bomb spots to grab a bite in Iceland.

Best Brunch
Laundormat Café
Where? Reykjavik
Price: $$

Best Dinner
Fish Market (Fiskmarkadurrin)
http://fiskmarkadurinn.is/english/
Where? Reykjavik
What to Get: Cod
Price: $$$

Fiskmarkadurrin is the kind of meal that you try to replicate unsuccessfully in the comfort of your home. Oh my cod - the cod had a glaze that had the savory flavor of unami and the taste of fruit. My mouth is watering thinking of it.

Best Lunch
Kaffi Illmur
Where? Akuryeri
What to Get: Fish of the day buffet.
Price: $$

Best Buffet
Hotel Blafell
Where? Breiðdalsvík
What to get: Buffet
Price: $$$

The Icelandic seem to love their buffets - & I love it. Normally, the buffet is rather expensive (60 euros), but it was the end of the day and the kind waitress gave us a discount. Do not under estimate the power of 4 hungry girls.

Best Coffee
Reykjavik Roasters
Where? Reykjavik
What to Get: Latte
Price: $

The baristas her are NOT messing around. This was the coffee I was craving the entire trip. After averaging 4 hours of sleep each night, I needed this to power through my last day.

Best Ice Cream
Valdis Ice Cream
Where? Reykjavik
What to Get: Ferrero Rochert Ice Cream
Price: $

The Forrerro Rochet ice cream was dreamy. I regret not getting multiple scoops of it.

Best Late Night Cocktails
Vegamont
Where? Reykjavik

I'm a Texan, so of course I had to order nachos.
