New Orleans Coffee

New Orleans Coffee

Being a snob from SF makes it difficult to travel to places with bad coffee. If my barista isn't timing my shot pull, I ain't about that life.

After visiting New Orleans, I feel like I've had a coffee revelation. Never have I seen a place with coffee shops with such passion, soul, and straight up good coffee.

It's crazy! Generally, baristas in SF have this better than thou attitude and stick up their noses if you ask them too many questions about their Slayer machines. At NOLA coffee shops, people actually give you the time of day.

You can have good beans and good equipment, but if you don't have a great barista you'll have a poor experience.  One more thing, the female barista representation was badass.

Ok the coffee shops-  the descriptions are in the captions.

District Donuts

Baby girl (or boy), you need to try the Nitro at District Donuts.... and the donuts. The nitro is some of the best and most unique I had. Also, I'm not a huge fan of donuts, but I almost cried when I ate this one... it was so good.

Mammoth Espresso

I usually don't like sweet drinks, but holy smokes is this Sweet Little Thing from Mammoth Espresso good. It's sweet, but not too sweet, and it's complemented with bitter hops. LOVE

Coffee shops in NOLA seem to really like their biscuits. This is one from Mammoth Espresso.

Solo Coffee

The barista here has so much style and character. She'll make everyone's latte with the same care and attention. It's a small cozy venue that sometimes has a pop up taco stand outside called The Lost Line.

Rouler Coffee

This cyclery / coffee shop is something of dreams. Every cyclist eagerly anticipated a cold beer or a hot cappuccino after a long ride. Bike friendly venues to me are like dog friendly venues to pet owners.

Cafe du Monde

I wouldn't necessarily get coffee here unles you must. But it's kind of something you have to do. The beignets are chewy and good.

Cherry Espresso

This is a photo of a chai latte because I got caffeined out, but the cappuccino I tasted was one of the finest I had. Also, you gotta appreciate the chai art. And if you can - go to the big venue, not the little one.

It would be SO hard to pick a favorite from these coffee shops- each of them is so unique. It's rare that I visit a place and this many coffee shops make the "best" list.

What about you- do you have any NOLA faves?
