Review: Laughing Giraffe Snakaroons

Review: Laughing Giraffe Snakaroons

I have been trolling Pinterest for a recipe for coconut macaroons for a while. They seem so easy to make and quite healthy, like avocado truffles. I never got around to making them, but now you can buy them. Laughing Giraffe Organics, a local health foods company, makes "Snakaroons", which are basically coconut macaroons . These Snackaroons are gluten free, organic, non-GMO, raw, and vegan, but they are actually delicious.

Let me preface, I love coconut in sweets. If you don't like the texture or flavor of coconut,, this snack is not for you.

Here's an overview of the 3 flavors I tried:

  • Aztec Chocolate: It has a more intense chocolate-y flavor with a kick.

  • Matcha: This one ever so subtle-y tastes like matcha. It's very refreshing.

  • Chocolate: This one is great when you don't want the intensity of the Aztec Chocolate.

Here's the positives and negatives:

(+) Quality ingredients, no chemicals. They dehydrate these snacks at a low temperature to preserve nutritional benefits.

(+) They taste good - despite the gluten free, vegan label (lol).

(+) 2 Snackaroons extinguishes a sweet tooth. Especially the Aztec Chocolate - sooo rich. Yum.

(-) They are quite caloric, but that's because coconut is high in fat and coconut sugar is used as a sweetener. This doesn't bother me that much considering the snack is made of all natural ingredients.

(-) I would have preferred them to have less or no coconut sugar. For me, coconut is quite sweet on its own, but this is just a personal preference.

(-) I would have no sense of portion control while eating these... but that's a personal problem lol.

Would I buy them? Yes. They're great to have as a snack with tea or coffee. You can also put them in a bowl and serve to guests as a finger food/snack. I would probably bring them along on a long hike or a bike ride for some quick sugar - maybe even as a camping snack.
